Open SMS Audition
Open Audition is an industry term meaning “Anyone can audition.”
Shows like “American Idol” and “America’s Next Top Model” are great examples of open Audition. Usually an open audition is announced through the media and is held on a specific day or weekend, depending on the project and the turnout. A lot of producers and casting directors use open Audition to find fresh talent and new faces. Open Audition also give a person who is casually thinking about acting, a chance to try out, without needing the experience or agency help to audition for a role.
It has been agreed by the Management Committee, on the recommendation of the Artistic Directors, that the Loft Theatre Company will continue its policy of holding open auditions for all active members plus non-members (provided they agree to join as members before commencement of rehearsal, if cast).
Directors are free to contact whomsoever they wish in advance of an open audition to invite them to read alongside others for a specific role, but any pre-casting must be done openly and must be approved by the Artistic Directors in advance. There are three main things to keep in mind when performing in the open auditions. They want you to do well. The casting process is as exhausting and difficult for them as it is for you. They're just waiting for the right person to walk in the room so they can all go home. Seeing them as the enemy doesn't serve you.
